Maison Silhouette - New Hotel in Biarritz, France
A Hidden Address in the Heart of Biarritz
Maison Silhouette is located just steps from the Hôtel de Silhouette, in one of Biarritz’s most vibrant yet effortlessly walkable neighborhoods. From here, Rue Gambetta leads directly to Les Halles, the city’s lively culinary hub, while the Atlantic Ocean is only a few minutes away on foot. This duality defines the experience: the energy of Biarritz just outside the door, and the immediate sense of calm once you enter the house. It is a place that exists slightly apart from the city, yet fully anchored within it, offering a rare balance between immersion and retreat.
An Intimate Extension of Hôtel de Silhouette
Maison Silhouette is not a new hotel in the traditional sense, but an elegant extension of Hôtel de Silhouette, expanding its spirit of hospitality into a more private, residential format. Housed in the former Maison Garnier, the property introduces a collection of six suites designed as independent living spaces. This is hospitality reimagined as “living in Biarritz,” where guests can stay for a few nights, a long weekend, or an extended escape with family or friends. The philosophy remains identical to the main hotel: discreet service, deep local knowledge, and an understated sense of care, now translated into a more intimate architectural setting.
Design by Juliette Saier – A Basque Home Reimagined
The interiors of Maison Silhouette are signed by Juliette Saier, who reinterprets the visual language of Hôtel de Silhouette on a more residential scale. Basque references are subtly woven throughout the design: red tones inspired by traditional architecture, handcrafted ceramics, ikat patterns, and local artistic details. These elements are reworked into a softer, more enveloping aesthetic, where textures are richer and atmospheres more intimate. The result is a collection of spaces that feel lived-in rather than styled, where contemporary comfort meets regional identity. It is a design approach that prioritizes emotion, warmth, and authenticity over formality.
Six Suites Designed as Private Living Spaces
Maison Silhouette features six generously proportioned suites spread across three levels, each conceived as a fully functional living space rather than a standard hotel room. Suites include separate lounge areas, large dressing rooms, terraces or balconies, and in some cases kitchenettes, allowing guests to inhabit the space with complete independence. Certain suites can connect, offering flexibility for families or groups traveling together. The palette is intentionally deep and cocooning, with tones of burgundy, rust, brown, and garnet that enhance the sense of intimacy. Two attic suites introduce a more immersive experience, fully wrapped in red, transforming architectural constraints into expressive design statements. Each suite is enriched by works from local artists, including photography on wood by Fabien Cayere and compositions by Jeanne Les Filles du Surf, grounding the experience firmly in the Basque cultural landscape.
A Living House with a Culinary Garden
At the heart of Maison Silhouette lies its connection to Hôtel de Silhouette and its lush garden setting. Guests benefit from access to shared spaces, including the Cosy Room on the ground floor, designed as a quiet lounge with books, board games, and soft seating that invites lingering. The Jardin restaurant extends the experience outdoors, offering seasonal cuisine rooted in local produce and a thoughtful, wellness-oriented approach to dining. Breakfast follows the Kousmine method, focusing on whole foods, grains, seeds, fruits, and nutritional balance, reflecting a contemporary vision of mindful gastronomy. In the warmer months, the garden becomes a vibrant social space, hosting art performances and jazz evenings, where dining blends naturally with cultural life under Biarritz’s golden light.
A Different Way to Experience Biarritz
From Maison Silhouette, Biarritz unfolds at a human pace. Everything is within walking distance: the beaches, the market halls, the cafés, the surf culture, and the oceanfront promenades. Guests move intuitively through the city, guided more by desire than by itinerary. Yet the true essence of the experience lies in returning. Returning to the calm of the house, the quiet of the garden, and the feeling of being slightly removed from the city’s energy while remaining deeply connected to it. Service is discreet and intuitive, adapting to each guest’s rhythm, whether for a beach recommendation, a hidden sunset spot, or a slow afternoon in the garden.
A New Expression of Basque Hospitality
Maison Silhouette redefines the idea of boutique hospitality in Biarritz. It is not about scale or spectacle, but about intimacy, design sensitivity, and the art of living well in a coastal town that already feels like a way of life. Here, the experience is not simply about staying in Biarritz, but about inhabiting it differently.
